What to Expect from Your First Online Yoga Session

Beginning something new can feel a little uncertain. Here is exactly what to expect from your first online session — and how to prepare so you can simply arrive and breathe.

Practising online means you can do yoga in the comfort of your own home, at a time that works with your schedule. It also means I see you in your real environment, which helps me shape a practice that truly fits your life.

Before your session

When you book, you will be asked a few questions about your goals, any areas you would like to be mindful of, and your preferred time and session length. This helps me plan a session that is safe, comfortable and personal to you before we even meet.

After booking, you will receive a confirmation email with your session details.

Preparing your space

  • A little floor space — enough to lie down with your arms stretched out.
  • A yoga mat, or a rug or folded blanket on a non-slip floor.
  • Simple props — a cushion, a firm pillow, a blanket and a belt or scarf can all help.
  • Comfortable clothing you can move and breathe in easily.
  • A stable internet connection and your device placed so your whole body is visible.
  • Water nearby, and a few minutes of quiet before we begin.
The most important thing to bring is not flexibility — it is curiosity.

During the session

We begin with a short conversation about how you are feeling today. Then we move through a practice designed around you — this may include gentle movement, breath awareness, mindful postures and time to rest. I will offer clear guidance, options to make postures easier or more challenging, and adjustments through verbal cues.

You are always in charge of your body. If something does not feel right, you can pause, rest or ask for an alternative at any time.

After your session

  1. Take a moment before jumping back into your day — a glass of water and a few slow breaths.
  2. Notice how your body and mind feel, and share any reflections next time.
  3. If helpful, I may suggest a short practice you can repeat between sessions.

Please mention any injuries, health conditions or pregnancy when you book, so the session can be adapted for you safely.

Ready when you are — your first session is simply the beginning of a conversation between you, your breath and your body.
